Adam Devine Says ‘Every Day Is a New Adventure’ Now That He’s a Dad: ‘It’s the Best’ (Exclusive)

Adam Devine may make a living as an actor and comedian, but his favorite job is being a dad to his 1-year-old son, Beau. 

The star opened up about fatherhood exclusively to PEOPLE at the season 4 premiere of his HBO series The Righteous Gemstones, calling it “the best.”

“He’s just so cute,” Devine adds of his son, who turned one on Feb. 16. “Every day is like a new adventure.”

The 41-year-old also tells PEOPLE at the event — which took place on Wednesday, Mar. 5, at L.A.’s Paramount Lot — that his friends tried to put him off becoming a parent.

“They tried to scare me out of it,” he says. “They’re like, ‘Your life’s over, your life’s going to suck’. "

But the comic adds that having Beau with his wife, Chloe Bridges, 33, when he was 40, meant he was ready for the responsibility. “I waited until I was an old man. I was ready for my life to be over,” he says. “I was sitting in a bar on a Tuesday, and I’m like, ‘What am I doing here? This is depressing’. "

The Pitch Perfect star, who tied the knot with actress Bridges in October 2021, also sang the praises of fatherhood in a January interview with PEOPLE in which he said he wished he’d “had kids sooner.”

"I love it, and I want to have 11 of them, but my wife is like, 'Two,' and I'm like, 'Four?' and she's like, 'Two,' so we'll see how that goes," he said, adding that little Beau had brought him “so much joy.” 

In June, Devine marked Father’s Day with a sweet Instagram photo of Beau alongside his own dad, Dennis. He sweetly captioned the image, “Being a dad has been the best experience of my life, and I’ve learnt from the best.”

Devine announced that he and his wife were expecting their first baby together in October 2023.

"Look we're pregnant!" he captioned an Instagram post, as Bridges added in her own upload, "We have news!! 🤰🏻 can't wait to get this lil family started."

In March 2024, the couple announced Beau’s birth alongside a hilarious snap of all three crying on social media. 

"Meet lil baby Beau Devine! He can be fussy at times, but we’ve already learned some great parenting techniques," he wrote. "Do your best fussy baby impression along with him, and he’ll straighten right out."
