It's Always Sunny's Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton Say Matthew McConaughey’s Uber Eats Ad Was ‘Totally Wrong’

"Football’s just an excuse to get you to drink more Four Walls whiskey," Howerton says in a new spot for the three stars' Irish American whiskey brand

Matthew McConaughey, it’s your move!

Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton have made a spoof of McConaughey’s Uber Eats ad for the 2025 Super Bowl, in which he creates a conspiracy theory that football was invented to sell food. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars, however, have a conspiracy of their own.

The trio, who launched an Irish American whiskey brand called Four Walls in 2023, are now claiming that the classic sport was actually invented to sell whiskey.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, they released an ad called "Ready for the Big Game" to lay out the evidence.

In it, the McElhenney, Day and Howerton gather around a bar table to enjoy their whiskey drinks when McElhenney asks, "Guys, does the whiskey taste better today?"

Day and Howerton quickly agree, with Howerton adding, "Of course it does, yeah. Because football’s just an excuse to get you to drink more Four Walls whiskey."

The Horrible Bosses alum replies, "I thought it made you crave food," in reference to McConaughey’s recent commercial. Immediately, Howerton set the record straight, saying that McConaughey was "totally wrong about that."

"Think about it," he says, "there are four quarters in football. Four walls."

McElhenney looks off in confusion as Day follows along, saying, "Okay!" Howerton continues to argue his point, adding, "American football, Irish American whiskey, right?"

The Welcome to Wrexham co-creator finally catches on. "The Eagles," he said in reference to the Philadelphia football team before picking up the Four Walls bottle. "And there is an eagle on back of this bottle."

Wanting to contribute, Day chimes in with, "And don’t forget the tush push. That makes you want to drink whiskey!" But his co-founders weren’t following along. "How?" McElhenney asks, to which Howerton adds, "Yeah, I’m having trouble making the connection."

Day continues to try to explain his thought process, but the other two aren’t on board and they begin to argue as the scene abruptly cuts and plays a jingle for the whiskey brand.

"Football and American Irish Whiskey. You get it," a voiceover says.

Sharing the ad on Instagram, Four Walls wrote, "We are *uber* excited about the big game. Drop a 🦅 if you’re drinking Four Walls this Sunday."

The hilarious ad was conceived by McElhenney’s More Better and shot by Twelve Tone Productions at Elbow Room in Los Angeles.

The whiskey brand recently announced that they have expanded into Louisiana, where McElhenney will be heading for a weekend of promotional appearances. The actor is set to hold a bottle signing event on Sat, Feb. 8 at Rouses Markets in Metairie, La. – about 15 minutes out of New Orleans.

Keeping the football theme alive, McElhenney will also be making an appearance at a Super Bowl pregame party and Four Walls will be hosting a pregame event with a special lineup of Birds legends over the weekend.

McConaughey, who has been busy with Uber Eats, presented some worthwhile evidence for his own conspiracy theory with the help of A-listers Martha Stewart, Charli xcx, Kevin Bacon, Greta Gerwig and Sean Evans. One of his points is that the football is nicknamed a "pig skin" which, he says, was to "make people crave bacon."

Now, we wait to see if he has a response to the whiskey defense!
