Prior to the couple's move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in the summer of 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton lived in Apartment 1A with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Prince and Princess of Wales moved into the residency shortly after announcing their pregnancy in 2012, and the apartment boasts an impressive 21 rooms.

Before Will and Kate moved into the residence, Apartment 1A was last occupied by Queen Elizabeth's late sister Princess Margaret.

Nearby Apartments 8 and 9 were also home to the late Princess Diana. After her marriage to King Charles III, Diana moved into Apartment 9 where they raised their sons, William and Harry. William and Kate now use the residences for office space and entertaining professionally for their various charities.

For William, Kensington Palace is a familiar place as it is where he spent much of his childhood, living with his mom Princess Diana. And now he has based his public life there too, as his office and support staff work in part of the palace. Some of it, on the Kensington Palace gardens side, is also open to the public.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank originally moved into the three-bedroom Ivy Cottage after their 2018 wedding. In 2022, the couple reportedly moved into Nottingham Cottage.

By royal standards, Nottingham Cottage is a relatively humble abode. Former police protection officer Ken Wharfe tells PEOPLE. "It's a lovely, classic Victorian cottage. It's probably two-up, three [rooms] down. It's not very big, incredibly small."

Before then, it was lived in by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after it had been vacated by Prince William and Kate Middleton.
