Hot Ones Hot Sauce Brand Featured on Episodes with Selena Gomez, Bad Bunny Recalled for Potential Contamination

Select Hot Ones-branded hot sauces are being recalled due to the potential contamination of plastic “foreign objects.”

The Karma Sauce Company LLC issued a recall for Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde Hot Sauce and Hot Ones Los Calientes Rojo Hot Sauce on Friday, Feb. 14. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the recall a Class II classification on Wednesday, March 19.

The recall affects 5-oz. bottles of both the Rojo and Verde products, which is the traditional size sold. Plus, one-gallon jugs of the Rojo and Verde and five-gallon buckets of the Verde hot sauces are also affected, though these sizes are likely in restaurants rather than homes. 

Recalled products were distributed in North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Specific barcodes and best-by dates of recalled products can be found on the FDA’s website. 

Heatonist, Hot Ones’ online retailer, advises customers to email a photo of the affected product before throwing it out and they will send consumers a replacement.

Celebrity guests on current and past seasons of Hot Ones, a viral YouTube series where host Sean Evans interviews stars while eating increasingly spicy chicken wings, consumed wings with the Hot Ones brand sauce. 

However, a representative for Heatonist tells PEOPLE none of the hot sauce bottles used on the show were part of the recalled batches.

The Rojo product was included in the hot sauce lineup of the current season’s (season 26) , which included famous participants such sa Selena Gomez, Kevin Hart and Bad Bunny. It was also part of season 21’s challenges with Jennifer Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, and others. Seasons 11, 12, 13, 14 and 17 featured the sauce, too.

Seasons 25, 23 and 20 all included  Hot Ones Los Calientes Verde Hot Sauce. Celebs like Sydney Sweeney, Kieran Culkin, Gwyneth Paltrow and others starred in those seasons. 

Earlier this week,  Nestlé USA recalled select Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals due to the potential presence of “wood-like material.”

The food brand released the recall on Monday, March 17, and listed the four affected products: Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry and Stouffer’s Party Size Chicken Lasagna.

The recalled items were produced between August 2024 and March 2025 and were distributed at major retailers across the country from September 2024 to March 2025. The affected products have best-by dates ranging from September 2025 to March 2026 and the specific batch numbers can be found on the FDA’s website.
