Michelle Monaghan has a lot of love for her husband of two decades, Peter White.

“I’m in love with the little devil,” The White Lotus actress told OK! Magazine in 2008. “He meets me halfway, there’s no tomorrow, he’s the most supportive person in my life. I love waking up to him every single day. It’s an honor.”

Monaghan and White started dating shortly after they met in New York City around 2001, per the Los Angeles Times. The couple then married in 2005 in Australia, where he is from, and welcomed their first child, daughter Willow Katherine White, three years later. Their second, son Tommy Francis White, arrived in 2013.

Like Monaghan, who was diagnosed with melanoma in 2007, White is also an advocate for skin health. In addition to his work as a graphic and interior designer, he launched a skincare brand targeting eczema relief in 2023.

White is originally from Australia. According to his LinkedIn profile, he earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology and politics at the University of Melbourne and a certificate of design in graphic design at Victoria University.

Monaghan and White moved from New York to Los Angeles when she was pregnant with Willow, as she told C Magazine in 2024. In addition to the warmer weather, the actress said they enjoy "being a few hours closer to Australia, because we visit Peter’s family there all the time.”

After graduating, White began a career in graphic design and worked for major companies like Land Rover, Starbucks and Google in N.Y.C., where he met Monaghan. When the couple moved to L.A. around 2008, he shifted his attention to interior design, per his LinkedIn.

The actress credits her husband’s career choice for her ability to stay connected to the real world while working in the entertainment industry.

“I’ve always been pretty level-headed thanks to a very grounded and humble upbringing,” she told Madeleine Green in 2020. “It also helps that my husband of 20 years, Peter, is not in the biz and we maintain a pretty low-key and private life, which I treasure.”

Monaghan and White first crossed paths while having drinks with friends at a bar in N.Y.C. She told Women’s Health in 2010 that the next day, she asked him out.

“He had blue eyes and a Mohawk," the True Detective actress said. "It did something for me."

A few years later, after cleaning out the drawers of a vintage dresser they purchased together, Monaghan told NUVO that White picked her up, perched her atop it and proposed.

“Every now and then we’ll be looking at old pictures, and I’ll see the dresser in the background,” she said, noting that they didn’t take it with them when they moved to L.A. “I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s that dresser, that one dresser.' ”

Monaghan and White married in August 2005 at a small seaside church in Port Douglas, Australia.

The actress noted one glaring similarity between her nuptials and the fictional one she planned for her role in the 2008 film Made of Honor. Like her character in the film, Monaghan had a male maid of honor.

"I thought, well, gosh, I can totally identify with this,” she told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2008. “He didn't try to break up our marriage at the 11th hour but I liked the idea that somebody was touching on it.”

Monaghan described her ceremony as “really pretty informal and really, really beautiful.”

He joked about her “making out” with Tom Cruise on their honeymoon

Monaghan and White had to pause their honeymoon plans after she landed a role in Mission: Impossible III, which started filming right after her wedding. And, the first scene she shot was an intimate moment with the movie’s star, Tom Cruise

Monaghan told Collider in 2023 that White was nothing but supportive. “I was so nervous, and my husband was like, ‘Don't worry, you're gonna follow his lead. You're gonna have a great time. It's going to be wonderful,' ” she recalled.

Monaghan continued, “I come home at the end of the day ... He goes, ‘How cool is it that you were making out with Tom Cruise on our honeymoon?’ ... that is a testament to the man that I married, who has just been totally supportive and is excited and jazzed for the opportunities.”

On her Instagram, the Pixels actress occasionally shares photos of her family’s adventures, including cake decorating with her daughter, playing tennis with her son and praising her husband’s parenting skills.

“I can’t believe how lucky we are,” Monaghan captioned two photos of White DJing on a beach. “You’re simply the coolest, most chill, most adventurous, present, funny, steady and loving father. Thank you for being uniquely and beautifully you @myherbitual You’re our heart and soul.”

At the insistence of White, Monaghan had a mole on her left calf checked out in 2007, per Refinery 29. After she got it removed and the cells tested positive for melanoma, Monaghan became an advocate for sun safety and skin health. Her husband, who has struggled with chronic eczema, shares the same passion.

White left his job at an interior design firm in 2020 to launch Herbitual, a skincare brand that focuses on healing remedies for dry and sensitive skin.

“About 20 years ago, one weary night, after living with chronic eczema, my husband @myherbitual said to me ‘One day I wanna help anyone suffering in their own skin,’ ” Monaghan captioned a 2023 Instagram post celebrating White’s birthday. “Cut to 20 years later, this very year, he made that 'notion' a reality - for himself and for everyone whose lives he’d hope to touch!”

She continued, “Today, I stand in awe of my hubby’s commitment to his health and of others. I celebrate his birthday but ultimately his journey.”
