Victoria Canal Shuts Down Tom Cruise Dating Rumors: 'Guys, This Is Literally Bonkers'

Victoria Canal is setting the record straight about any dating speculation surrounding her and Tom Cruise.

On Monday, Aug. 5, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter posted to Instagram to quickly shut down romance rumors about her and the 62-year-old movie star, writing in a post, "guys, this is literally bonkers, but apparently the tabloids think i am dating tom cruise. i’m deceased.💀."

"let’s just stop this in its tracks," Canal continued alongside screenshots of articles reporting on the rumors. "i’m sorry to bum u out but i am not dating the man, albeit a lovely person & artist. lol never thought I would have to clarify that out loud in my life."

The Chris Martin protégée — who was born without a right forearm and hand due to a condition called amniotic band syndrome — jokingly claimed that a "huge perk" to the gossip about her and Cruise is that it marks the "first time I’m Spanish-American singer Victoria Canal and not one-armed pianist whose name remains unmentioned!!!!" She added, "there’s always a win somewhere, thanks Tom."

Canal concluded her post by writing, "in all seriousness guys, tom has been nothing but a respectful and encouraging person and mentor, much like chris martin, my dad, my music teachers and other wise people that have learned a lot from living. and again, i am friends with all kinds of people who are very different to me. you learn a lot if you're open to life bringing you those teachers."

PEOPLE reached out to reps for Canal and Cruise for comment.

Canal's comments come a few weeks after she and Cruise were spotted traveling together via a helicopter that the Top Gun star was flying in London on July 12. That wasn't the first time Canal flew in style courtesy of Cruise, though.

A few days prior, the "Yes Man" singer shared on Instagram that the Oscar-nominated actor gave her and her brother a lift to the Twisters premiere in London, where she went to support her "talented bud" and starring actor Anthony Ramos. "not tom cruise flying me & my brother in a heli to the @twistersmovie premiere !!!! lolol," Canal raved in a post, which included photos and videos of her U.K. travels.

Her comments section quickly filled with questions from fans wondering how she met Cruise and why he treated her to a helicopter ride. "We met backstage at [Glastonbury Festival] and talked abt the upcoming premiere we were both going to and he said, 'roll with me! I’ll take you guys in the heli!' lol," the Well Well artist wrote in response to one comment.

Another commenter said, "Didn't see that one coming," and Canal wrote back, "hahah neither did i 😂."
