Channing Tatum Was 'Nervous' Meeting Wrexham Team for Magic Mike-Inspired Super Bowl Ad (Exclusive)

Fueled by STōK Cold Brew Coffee, Channing Tatum schools the football team owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in a new commercial

Something is brewing between Channing Tatum and the Wrexham AFC team ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

A new commercial for STōK Cold Brew Coffee features Tatum, 44, back in Magic Mike mode as he joins the Welsh football team in their locker room to teach some sultry dance moves. The ad spot will air on Fox during the big NFL game on Sunday, Feb. 9, when the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.

“This is kind of a weird dream come true,” Tatum tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I never imagined it would come around like this! But it was so much fun.”

Fueled by STōK, Tatum flips, gyrates and grooves in front of the footballers, encouraging them to indulge their inner dancers when celebrating wins on the field. It’s not long before the team joins in — which the actor says took little encouragement on the commercial’s set.

“Well over 50 percent of those dance moves, those boys came up with,” he recalls. “They legit had real opinions on what they wanted their celebrations to be. And we shot a ton. We obviously can't do a five-minute Super Bowl ad, but we had enough material, let's just say that.”

Filmed under the banner of Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort, the STōK ad ends with a winking cameo from Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham AFC alongside Rob McElhenney. “What’s up, doc?” he can be heard asking Tatum via telephone. “They’re ready,” responds the actor with deadly seriousness.

“I'm buddies with both of them,” says Tatum of his Deadpool & Wolverine costar Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, 47. “And I haven't really done any sort of dancing in a while, so I just was like, ‘Hell yeah, let's go’... We didn't want to go full stripper. We wanted it to be fun and keep it PG.”

Were the Wrexham players starstruck by the Blink Twice star? Quite the contrary. “I was definitely more nervous to meet them,” he tells PEOPLE. “I went to their game and they were so nice… We all just got on really quickly and really easily, and then we just brought that fun to the actual piece.”

As for the product inspiring such exuberant dancing, STōK is yet another reason the ad was a match for Tatum. “I drank STōK Cold Brew before they even offered this to me,” he says. “As an actor you work weird hours… The body doesn't know what time it is and what you're asking it to do. Coffee and caffeine in general is probably one of the only ways that I get through it.”

Tatum and the Wrexham team’s STōK ad will play during Super Bowl LIX, airing Sunday, Feb. 9 on Fox.
