Now, fans are clamoring for more and wondering: will there be a season 3 of Severance? The show was officially renewed the morning following the season 2 finale, on March 21. The announcement came via X, where executive producer Ben Stiller posted, "So some fans are asking for Season 3 of Severance. What do you say, @timcook?" The Apple CEO swiftly responded, "Season 3 of Severance is available upon request." Stiller and creator Dan Erickson previously teased more to come for the beloved Apple TV+ show. Starring Adam Scott as Mark Scout, a grieving widower who chooses to undergo the severance procedure to separate his personal self (his outtie) from his work persona (his innie), season 2 follows him and his coworkers — Dylan (Zach Cherry), Helly (Britt Lower) and Irving (John Turturro) — as they dig deeper into the secrets behind Lumon, a cult/biotechnology company conducting questionable research on human patients. Severance Season 2 Finale Recap: What Happened to Mark — and Does Gemma Make It Out of Lumon Alive? Knowing Gemma (Dichen Lachman) is alive, Mark — with the help of his former boss (and creepy neighbor) Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette) — fights to save his wife in the last episode. But the season 2 finale had us wondering: what's next for the two? And when will we know? Here's everything we know so far about season 3 of Severance. Will there be a season 3 of Severance? Patricia Arquette in 'Severance'. Apple TV+ Severance has been officially renewed for a third season, and it appears the writer's room is already at work. Executive producer Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025 that scripts were already being worked on in Los Angeles, and Apple was on board. “Everything changed a lot after the strike, for everyone, in terms of the way people are looking at budgets and spending,” Stiller said. “To Apple’s credit, they stayed on track with what the show was, and they’ve supported it.” The timing in announcing the show's renewal is nothing new; Severance was only confirmed for season 2 two days before the finale aired in 2022. “Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” Stiller said in a statement along with the renewal news. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.” Erickson noted: "The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world's finger traps combined, I can't wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people.” When will Severance season 3 come out? Adam Scott as Mark and Britt Lower as Helly in 'Severance'. Apple TV+ Seeing as the gap between season 1 and season 2 was three years, viewers have expressed similar concerns for the release of season 3 — but Stiller affirms that will not be the case. “No, the plan is not to [wait three years],” the director said during a March 2025 appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. “Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.” He added that the gap between the two seasons wasn't intentional, as the show dealt with the effects of the WGA and SAG strikes and numerous reshoots. “It took us a little bit to regroup, and the show, we shot for 186 days on season 2," Stiller said. "Editing takes a while, but thank goodness the audience was there when we came back." He continued, "The challenge was to get people who hadn’t seen the show to watch the first season, so Apple did a really good job of getting the word out and we did as much press as we could. Also, three years later, Apple TV+ is actually a different … it’s a different situation there now because they have more viewers. When we started out, we were one of the first shows.” Who is returning for Severance season 3? Ben Stiller on set of 'Severance'. Apple TV+ It is presumed that the main cast will all reprise their roles — with the same crew at the helm. Stiller, who has been lauded for his directorial skills throughout the show, has said that directing majority of the episodes has given him a new appreciation for the work actors do. “It’s made me admire actors so much more as a director,” he said on the Kelce brothers' podcast. “When you’re really just directing, you can just focus on what you’re doing and be there for the other actors and be connected to the crew.” Also, Stiller and Erickson have had a vision of how the show will end. “We know what the ending is — how we’re getting there is the creative process and we have benchmarks,” Stiller said during a March 2025 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. "But that to me happens in the process, you want to allow for discovery within that but we definitely know how long it's going to go too." Where can I watch Severance?
