In a new interview with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Nancy reflected on how the lyrics of Heart's 1975 hit "Crazy on You" were written in response to the Vietnam War and noted that she felt "embarrassed" to be from the United States at the time — as well as today. "We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War," the 71-year-old guitarist and vocalist told the outlet, which highlighted lyrics from the song including "No way to breathe easy" and "So afraid of someone who's so afraid of you." "To be as subtle as possible, it's more embarrassing now," added Nancy. Nancy Wilson of Heart in New Orleans in April 2024. For Nancy, the raucous rock track "is even more relevant in the salacious billionaire culture with the grab-them-by-the-(expletive) mentality," she said — referencing President Donald Trump's infamous 2005 quote published by The Washington Post in 2016. "I think for women in the culture the pendulum will come back again, and there'll be another renaissance in the arts to push back against the oppression of the cranky old rich white guys," added the Heart musician. "I hope I am alive to see that next revolution."
