During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast earlier this week, the 61-year-old White Lotus star said he’s proudly taking every opportunity to talk about the character he portrayed in six feature films before the J.K. The Hogwarts student, who reigned supreme at Slytherin House, was the arch nemesis of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his two best friends, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). Discovery first announced its plans for a new Harry Potter series in April 2023, with Bloomberg reporting each season of the show would be based on one of Rowling’s books, starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While the new Harry, Ron and Hermione have yet to be announced, the supporting cast will include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. A new actor for Lucius has not been announced yet. It is not currently known if any original cast members will be reprising their roles. "Like the rest of the world, [I’m] very excited to watch as an audience member," Radcliffe, 35, told E! in May 2024. "I don't know if it would work to have us do anything in it." In an official press release, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that Rowling, 59, will serve as an executive producer of the series along with Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
