Speaking with PEOPLE for this week's issue, the 25-year-old model, singer and actress says she has learned to embrace her “natural” beauty, with some help from Lisa Frankenstein actor Eikenberry, 25.

“I'm really learning that natural is beautiful and it's taken me a long time to learn that,” says Hamlin. "I feel like Henry has been helpful because he’s just like, ‘You are beautiful like this.’ I've been like, 'Wait, I am. I don't need to do certain things.’”

“I love when I see someone and I'm like, ‘I know that that is a natural face.’ I'm like, "It's stunning. You're beautiful,’” continues Hamlin.

Hamlin — the daughter of actors Lisa Rinna, 60, and Harry Hamlin, 72, who are also parents to Amelia, 22 — appears with her mom in the new Lifetime movie Mommy Meanest, a disturbing tale about a woman named Madelyn (Rinna) who sends her own adolescent child Mia (Briana Skye) anonymous bullying messages.

Hamlin has a supporting role as one of Mia’s classmates. And though she has been focusing on modeling and music in recent years, she decided the chance to act with her famous mom was too good to pass up.

“I just feel like when opportunities present themselves, why not take them? Why not enjoy? Yes, there's other paths I would like to take and focus on. But if you have an opportunity, why not explore it, take it, enjoy it, and learn from it?” says Hamlin.

“I never thought I would be acting. And Henry and I, we thought we were going to be in different categories, just different pods, and I guess it just kind of came into one,” says Hamlin, who reveals they both recently auditioned for the same television show. (She’s mum on which one.)

Hamlin says it was “cute” and “fun” to prepare together. “To do [it] with him and watch him work and memorize lines as well because I still don't understand how people do that,” she says. “It's not my strong point so I was like, ‘Whoa, you guys are really professional.’”

And though she’s new to acting, Hamlin says her parents have given her valuable lessons about show business that she has taken to heart.

No. 1: “Be kind to everyone on set. It should just be second nature,” she says.

No. 2: "Even if you're so sick, show up,” Hamlin quotes her parents as saying.

Rinna, however, clarifies that last point.

“I would say, ‘Okay, listen. If you're having a bad day or you just want to complain and you're just really having a hard time, go in the bathroom, call me, you can vent to me, and then you go back out on set. It's all about being professional. Nobody cares if you don't feel well. Nobody cares if you're having a bad day, but if you need to express it, go to the bathroom, call me. Then you go back out to work,” she says.
