Seth Meyers can find humor in anything, particularly when it comes to raising his three kids: Ashe, Axel and Adelaide.
The Saturday Night Live alum wed his wife Alexi Ashe on Sept. 1, 2013, and three years later, they welcomed their first child together, son Ashe Olson. In 2018, Seth and Alexi's second son, Axel Strahl, was born. Seth and Alexi's family grew again in 2021 with the birth of their daughter, Adelaide Ruth.
The Late Night host frequently uses the chaos of parenthood as inspiration when it comes to his comedy, including in his HBO special Dad Man Walking. Seth explained to Variety in November 2024 that although he picks on his family, all of his jokes are born out of affection.
“There’s something so universal about my family, and it should be noted that even though I bust on them pretty hard, I love talking about them. They’re my favorite people,” he said.
According to Seth, fatherhood has turned out even better than he expected. “I had really high hopes for it [and] it’s matched them,” he told The New York Times in February 2019. “I was so close to my father as a child, and I hoped it to be true for me and my boys, and it has been so far.”
He went on to say that despite all of his professional achievements, being a dad gives him the greatest joy. “When I leave for work in the morning, my son gives me a running hug. So I walk out the door and even though I have this whole wonderful day ahead of me, I know for a fact that I’ve already had the best part of my day. And that, I guess, is kind of surprising,” Seth said.
Here’s everything to know about Seth Meyers’ three children: Ashe, Axel and Adelaide.

Seth and Alexi welcomed their oldest child, son Ashe Olson, on March 27, 2016.
The couple confirmed that they were expecting the previous November and Seth told PEOPLE, “I’m most looking forward to seeing who it looks like, that’s the first thing out of the gate."
Ashe was born on a Sunday, so the talk show host took the next day off to stay home with his newborn baby boy, although he expressed gratitude for friends' and fans' well wishes on X. “Thank you, everyone for the kind words! Mom and baby are doing great!!!” he wrote.
When Seth returned to Late Night on Tuesday, he announced the happy news to the audience and shared more about Ashe’s birth, joking about the Uber experience on the way to the hospital and explaining his son’s meaningful moniker.
“We named our son Ashe, which is my wife’s maiden name. And I can’t picture a better way to honor what my wife did than naming him after her,” he said, before adding that his middle name, Olson, is Seth’s mother’s maiden name.
Six weeks after Ashe was born, Seth shared the first photo of his newborn while appearing on Today with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. “It’s fantastic,” he said about becoming a father. “Your life completely changes, but it changes so much less than the mother’s life changes."

Late Night with Seth Meyers
In November 2017, Seth announced that he and Alexi were expecting baby number two, and shared about how he hoped Ashe would love his new brother.
“I’m so excited, mostly just because my relationship with my brother is as strong a thing as I have in my life,” he told USA Today the following January. “I’m so excited for not only Ashe to have that but for whomever comes to have Ashe.”
Around the same time, Seth gushed about his firstborn to PEOPLE, saying that if baby number two was even “in the ballpark” of how great Ashe is, he and Alexi would be thrilled.
After Ashe became an older brother for a second time with the birth of his sister Adelaide in 2021, Seth told PEOPLE that their eldest child had been so excited to have a sister.
“My oldest was the one who begged for — not just another baby — but he really wanted a baby sister,” he said. “He will proudly tell anyone who asks that this baby was his idea.”

Seth and Alexi welcomed their second son, Axel Strahl, on April 8, 2018, but he made his red carpet-debut before he was even born.
Less than two months after announcing they were expecting over Thanksgiving weekend, the pair walked the red carpet together for the 2018 Golden Globes, which Seth was hosting, showing off Alexi’s baby bump.
After Axel was born, Seth shared the incredible and hilarious story of welcoming his second son.
Unlike his older brother Ashe, Axel couldn’t wait for his parents to get to the hospital, and instead arrived in the lobby of their apartment building. “This is how fast it happened. I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, ‘We're about to have a baby. We're having a baby. We had a baby,’ ” Seth told the audience.
After praising his wife for remaining so calm, the host went on to thank a number of people, including his doorman, who stopped people from coming into the lobby during the delivery, and his neighbors, who brought blankets and put towels in the dryer to help keep Axel warm until more help arrived. “It was just this incredible outpouring of kindness from people we barely knew,” he said before thanking the NYPD, the fire department, the EMTs, their doctor and the staff at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Seth also explained that they chose the name Axel simply because they liked it, but that his middle name, Strahl, had a special meaning. It’s the last name of Alexi’s grandparents, two Holocaust survivors who met in a hospital in Austria the day after they were liberated from a concentration camp.
“When someone is born, you just have such an appreciation for everyone in your lineage who lived so that you could have this moment,” Seth said. “And we're just so happy to give him this name for people who obviously had to work so hard to do that.”

Finally, Seth gave a heartfelt thank you to his “amazing” wife and his two sons. “I haven't known them very long, but I can guarantee you, I’m going to love them unconditionally forever," he said.
In 2019, Seth released his first stand-up special on Netflix, Lobby Baby, in honor of Axel. Throughout the special, he joked about parenthood and family, telling stories about his kids and his own dad.
Unsurprisingly, the story of Axel’s birth is a prominent feature. As dramatic as it was, though, Seth told Vanity Fair in 2018 that he knows there are far more exciting things about being a father. “One thing is you realize: Having a baby born in the lobby is, all things being equal, on the easier side of what it’s like to be a parent," he said.
In December 2024, Seth shared a drawing Axel gave him for his birthday. "My son making me a birthday card with a homemade Wordle (his name was the answer) and a Pittsburgh Steeler is the most seen I have felt all year," he wrote on Instagram.

Seth and Alexi quietly welcomed their third child, and first daughter, Adelaide Ruth, in September 2021. The comedian shared the news two months later during the Thanksgiving episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
The show featured one of Seth’s annual family traditions in which Ashe and Axel dress up as turkeys. In the video, the two young boys are seen in their matching turkey costumes jumping on the couch before shouting “Surprise!” and revealing their newborn sister in a similar outfit. “We had another one you guys!” Seth told the audience after the clip played, adding that she was born “10 weeks ago.”
Adelaide, who goes by the nickname Addie, was named in honor of Seth’s maternal grandmother, while her middle name came from Alexi's grandmother. Unlike her older brothers, Addie’s birth was fairly drama-free. In fact, it went exactly as planned.
“Alexi was very aware that she has pretty fast labors, and so she decided to have it at home with a midwife,” the host explained. “It was amazing because, you know, you go to a hospital, which we did for the first two, and it feels very medical, and this birth very much just felt like a miracle.”

Although Seth has frequently joked about being disappointed that Addie’s planned home birth didn’t provide him with any new comedy material, he’s also noted that having such a smooth delivery was a “wonderful” experience.
“She was born at a perfect time, at 10 o'clock at night,” he told PEOPLE in March 2022. “So she got to sleep in bed with us the very first night. And the boys got to wake up, it was like Christmas morning, except it was a baby girl instead of some plastic toy they'd get bored of in an hour. It was great.”
Seth concluded, saying, “She just is the most chill baby we’ve had."
