Woman Says She Refuses to Give Aunt Her Dog Back After She Gave the Pet Away Multiple Other Times Already

A woman says she is fed up with her aunt trying to take a dog she originally owned back from her — after giving it away multiple times in the past.

In a post on Reddit's "Am I The A------?" forum, the woman explained that her family had lost their own "fur baby of fifteen years" when her wealthy aunt and husband were trying to sell their dog because it was "too much work."

"Her and her husband are extremely wealthy with kids who have moved away from home. She doesn’t work, so had spends most of her time at home with the dog," the woman wrote, detailing that she eventually convinced her aunt to give her the pet.

Taking in the dog as their own with the "intention of us having her forever, and we thought that was that," the woman said her aunt traveled through Europe, "enjoying her luxurious life," but upon her return, things changed.

"She starts to hint to my mom on the phone that she wants her back," the woman said, referring to the dog her aunt had given away. "She eventually full-blown started asking for her back because she missed her. We initially refused and said no and told her it’s unfair, but she eventually guilt-tripped me and I agreed to give her back."

The woman said she and her family were "devastated" to give the dog back, but, about a month later, she said her aunt called to tell her that she and her husband were moving to a new apartment building that didn't allow pets.

"Now, remember, these people are rich rich, and if they truly loved the dog, they could have found a place that accepted pets," the woman wrote, explaining, however, that she and her family "agreed" to welcome the dog back into their lives, "but on the premise that she WAS NOT going to ask for her back."

"She agreed, and she bought her back to us," the woman continued.

In the several months that the dog has been theirs again, the woman said her family changed the ownership and the dog's microchip info to their name, and they are very happy.

But, the woman said her aunt has since contacted them recently, "starting to hint that she’s lonely and wants the dog back."

Despite attempts to tell the aunt that they don't want to give the dog back to her — again — the woman said, "There has been an all out argument between us and her, accusing us of TAKING HER dog, calling us manipulative and just general nasty stuff."

In the comments section of the post, many sided with the woman and her family for opting to not give the dog back.

"There is no question. You are not giving away that poor dog. I am not one to advocate no contact at the earliest opportunity, but in this case, let it be the end of the relationship," one user wrote.

Another commenter added that they "wouldn't have given the dog back in the first place."
