A woman says she found out her fiancé is still married to his ex — and now she’s wondering if she’s justified in demanding that he seek an immediate divorce.

The woman detailed her situation on the “AIBU? [Am I Being Unreasonable?]” forum on U.K.-based community site Mumsnet.com. In her post, she shared that she and her partner have been together for four years, but she recently discovered that he is still married to someone else.

The original poster (OP) said that she found the information out via another one of his exes, who reached out to her on Facebook after seeing her engagement photos.

“I’ve met his wife loads as they share kids (age 12&14 together). They split 9 years ago but apparently never sorted the divorce out,” the OP explained, adding that her fiancé claims he merely “forgot” to mention it.

“I don’t know why he kept this from me," she continued. "I’m not even sure what his plan was here — marry me while still married to his ex?"

She then shared that she has since demanded that her fiancé get a divorce or “we’re over.”

“AIBU [am I being unreasonable]?” the woman asked, concluding her post.

Platform users were quick to share their opinions on the situation in the post’s comments section, with the vast majority of people saying that the woman should think long and hard before committing her life to this man.

“I'd talk to his wife to see why they didn't divorce,” one commenter wrote, adding, “But do you want to marry a man who doesn't take legal stuff seriously? That's the least sinister possibility here. I couldn't marry a man like that.”

“Dump this liar,” another person urged the OP.

Someone else said: “He didn’t forget that he was still married. I’d be more insulted and annoyed by that s--- excuse than by him proposing while still already married in the first place. He really is insulting your intelligence there. Hand the ring back, and tell him the engagement is off until he’s divorced."

"I hope for your sake you haven’t merged finances or own any property with him," the same person added.
