Tori Spelling is working on a brand new version of herself.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 51, confessed she was still working on her sense of confidence — despite being known for portraying characters who are sure of themselves on screen.

"It's something I'm definitely still working on," she explained. "I think people assume when you're in this business, you're an actor and you're famous and you speak [that] you're so confident. I've had a lack of confidence my entire life and I never felt worthy enough."

"I used to speak those words to them, but inside I was thinking 'I don't feel that way [about myself],'" she added. "So I'm really working on that."

Nowadays, Spelling said she's been doing "really good" as her children — Beau, 8, Finn, 12, Hattie, 13, Stella, 16, and Liam, 17 who shares with ex-husband Dean McDermott — are "thriving" and she's in a "great time" in her life.

"Like my friend always says, this is my Tori 2.0 time and it really seems to be just kind of a fresh start and my second chapter," she said. "Things are going really, really well and I'm really happy."

Sure enough, Spelling has been on a hot streak since her early elimination from season 33 of Dancing with the Stars.

In Lifetime's Abducted in the Everglades, the actress takes on the lead role as an Indiana mom named Beverly, who travels to Florida "when her college-aged daughter goes missing while on Spring Break down in Miami," according to a plot synopsis.

According to Spelling, she initially turned down the role because of her prior commitment to the competitive dance show.

"I was offered this movie, but it didn't line up because I was doing Dancing with the Stars, and I was committed to that. You never know how long you're going to be on for," she revealed.

"I didn't expect to be eliminated the second show, and I was like, 'Oh, goodness,' but the silver lining, the Everglade lining, was this movie was still there, and they were like, 'Oh, we really wanted Tori to star in it,' and I was available," she continued. "So I went right after being eliminated [from DWTS] and dove right into the movie."
