Bullshit, Vietnam was lost because of lack of support by the populous for the corrupt South Vietnamese government. If you would have passed 3rd grade, you would know that.

As for Korea in 1950, it was never the intention by the US to reunite Korea. The war effort was meant to drive the communist back to the 38th parallel...

If you know of any evidence of plans to do anything else, then post it up ole fool....

You underestimate the damage North Korea can do before it is crushed, and the danger of crushing a country Communist China went to war to defend previously.

Yeah, so? He demanded unconditional surrender and an end to hostilities by the North... We requested the same from Japan in WWII. I don't remember Japan being annexed into the US at the end of the war....:meh:

I also read somewhere that once MacArthur had demanded unconditional surrender of North Korea that he had was planning to continue marching into China and had requested (demanded, we are talking about Mac Arthur after all ;) ) the availability and use of atomic/ nuclear weapons to combat China. Then China entered the Korean War and it was the Chinese Army that stopped their advance at the 38th parellel, not America.

True.... However, the longer this goes on, the danger of North Korea being able to attack the US with nuclear weapons becomes more likely every day.

Right now they can't. No need to wait until they can.

True the US didn't use nuclear in Vietnam... However they did use the next best thing, Agent Orange (a chemical weapon) and landmines....to which both are still having an affect on their people to this day.

Escape from North Korea: 'How I escaped horrors of life under Kim Jong-il'
    By Tom Phillips
    12:00PM GMT 11 Nov 2014

Yeonmi Park was nine years old when she was invited to watch her best friend’s mother be shot.

Growing up in North Korea Yeonmi had seen executions before. She remembers her mother piggybacking her to public squares and sports stadiums to watch the spectacles used by Kim Jong-il’s Workers’ Party to silence even the slightest whisper of dissent.

But this killing lodged in her mind. Yeonmi watched in horror as the woman she knew was lined up alongside eight other prisoners and her sentence was read out. Her crime was having watched South Korean films and lending the DVDs to friends. Her punishment in this most paranoid of dictatorships was death by firing squad...

Yeonmi was born on October 4 1993 in Hyesan, a notoriously cold river port along North Korea’s 850-mile northern border with China. The following year, on July 8, Kim Il-sung, the country’s 82-year-old founder and ‘Great Leader’, died of a heart attack...

Meanwhile, the economy was collapsing and the Great Famine, which would eventually claim up to 2.5 million lives, according to Andrew Natsios, the former head of USAID, was beginning to take hold.

No dictator can govern entirely by fear for any length of time. People need to be willing to carry out the dictator's orders.

What made Hitler dangerous was that millions of Germans were not only willing to kill for him, they were willing - perhaps even eager - to die for him. This fanatical loyalty continued until Germany's unconditional surrender.

I doubt that many people in North Korea are willing to die for Kim Jong Un. The general population must know that life is much better for Koreans in South Korea. They must know that the Kim Dynasty has run North Korea into the ground, and that Kim's recklessness threatens them with nuclear annihilation.

They must have noticed that Little Kim is fat while they are threatened by starvation.

Fat Kim has demonstrated to high ranking officials in North Korea that none of them are safe from him.

First, Shooter sees that the propaganda war against North Korea has started; the first step is to demonize your enemy, make them out to be inhuman barbarians.

Also, Shooter would not bet on the North Korean people filling the streets to thank us for taking out Kim. There was an excellent PBS show recently that looked at life in North Korea. While much of it was controlled by North Korean propaganda experts, it was clear also that the people look on Kim as their savior and their God, much as the Japanese looked on Hirohito. Shooter would expect that taking out Kim would unleash a lot of North Korean anger and it would take a long time to overcome that.

Better we should let South Korea run the show. That's why we built them a military.

A propaganda war is much better than a real war. It gives other countries a chance to attempt to make a difference.
If they choose not to do that then there are other ways of taking care of something that has become a problem.

The propaganda war is being played on the US population, to fire everyone up to justify whatever action Trump and China are cooking up.

I thought everyone was all fired up about Russia and other countries listening and watching everything that happened in the U.S.? Why is it that their story changes so much?

Kim Jong-un's ex-girlfriend was among a dozen well-known North Korean performers who were executed by firing squad nine days ago, according to South Korean reports.

Kim Jong-un executes education minister by firing squad for not SITTING properly during a meeting...

Dictator of the East Asian country Kim Jong Kim is no stranger to odd behaviour, and the news this morning that he's brutally executed his defence chief Hyon Yong Chol because he fell asleep at a military event isn't exactly surprising.

The dictator, who has been in power since 2011 following the death of his father Kim Jong Il, has made a name for himself when it comes to doing away with members of his inner circle in the following surprising, and grim, ways.

Jang Song Thaek was Kim's one-time political mentor and described as the second most powerful figure in North Korea. He was also married to Kim's aunt.

After a military show trial, Uncle Jang was executed by firing squad in December 2013 by Kim in a purge of officials and family.

Jang Song Thaek's wife - Kim's aunt - was understandably displeased at the violent loss of her husband...

earlier this month a defector claimed that Kim ordered her murder - by poisoning - after she complained about her 67-year-old husband’s death.

Along with her demise, it's said Kim ordered the rest of Jang's family, around seven members, to be put to death...

Observers believe as many as 200,000 North Koreans are being held in six political prison camps – whose existence is denied by the authorities – located in some of the most inhospitable regions.

Other firing squad deaths include a forestry minister who questioned Kim's forestation policies and an official of similar rank executed in February for resisting Kim's plans to construct a new building in the shape of a flower named after his grandfather, North Korean founder Kim Il Sung...

The ramifications of Jang Song Thaek's execution continued when Deputy Public Security Minister O Sang-hon - a known acolyte of the deceased Jang - was burned to death...

A vice minister of the army was executed with a mortar round for reportedly drinking and carousing during the official mourning period after Kim Jong Il’s death in December 2011.

For North Korea relief is just a bullet away.

I predict that Kim Jong Un will be assassinated or executed, and that the North Korean people will respond the way the people of Romania responded when Nicolae Ceausescu was executed.

IF the US made military moves against North Korea it would almost certainly be after the US warned off China and Russia. Shooter seriously doubts we would take unilateral action against North Korea. That said, in a worst case scenario, if we did the first strike would be on any missile bases or suspected nuclear stockpiles.
Remember invading Iraq, and Afghanistan? The US led coalition took out communications and military command centers before anyone knew what had happened. Then we kicked their air force out of the sky, then we sent in the ground troops.

And we lost in North Viet Nam because that asshat Johnson and his sidekick McNamara thought they knew more than the Generals, and tried to run the war like a political campaign. Lesson learned. One does not make political statements with American lives.

Trump listens to his Generals and they would tell him; if we're going in we're going in to finish this once and for all. No negotiations until we have these bastards on the floor with their hands locked over their heads and a Marine standing over them.

Trump would go with that plan, and warn off China and Russia. As long as China was confident we were only dealing with a mad dog they'd make noise but stand back; they don't want a full blown war any more than we do. Ditto Russia.

Trump and his entire administration are worse than The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight. If they are not out and out lying they are being too fucking dumb to know which way they are going.

Aircraft carrier wasn’t moving toward North Korea when WH said it was

While Little Kim send rockets off into the ocean the USA sens 7,700 pounds of food and supplies to the space station...

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — John Glenn’s trailblazing legacy took flight Tuesday as a cargo ship bearing his name rocketed toward the International Space Station.

An Atlas rocket provided the late morning lift to orbit, just as it did for Glenn 55 years ago.

Named in honor of John Glenn, an original Mercury 7 astronaut, became the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. He launched again in 1998 aboard shuttle Discovery at age 77, the oldest person ever in space.

Sure. But it took about a year for John Glenn to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery due to the backlog in burials.

Saw how the Times made a big deal of this in the paper this morning. I don't understand it. Seems like more confabulation. They had to finish exercises with Australia and were scheduled to go back up to NK afterward. And that carrier group has lethal force projection over at least a third of the Pacific, possibly much more. The US Seventh Fleet can hit anything in the Pacific, from anywhere in the Pacific, so what does it matter, where the ships were physically located or which direction they were headed. None.

The NYT has no shame. This "story" is as moronic as the brouhaha over the Easter Egg Roll.
