A little bit of good news.

I belong to a microloan organization that builds access to financial equity and inclusion worldwide called Kiva. They do good work, responsibly. It's awesome. I've lent money to folks wanting to buy seeds to plant crops, buy tools to help them succeed in their new business, buy stock for their shop or market stall, help a refugee secure housing for their family in their new country, all kinds of things all over the world. The money Kiva lends is interest-free to the borrower. Volunteers help translate the borrower's story so I can read it. I pay the cost of administering the loan when I lend the money. I don't make money on my investment; it just goes back into my lending fund when the payments come in. Sometimes I don't get paid back, but my overwhelming experience is that the loans get repaid. I add to my lending fund every month, so over time I'm able to lend more to more people.

Just got an email that they have broken the two billion threshold - borrowers from all over the world have rec'd over $2 billion in loans from lenders all over the world.

That made me smile. In a timeline where everything seems awful and corrupt and violent and evil, there are still good people running good organizations and genuinely helping people to do good things for themselves and others. I needed that little piece of good news.

Newest niece arrived! A bit early, but healthy and beautiful!
My insanely brilliant husband. Who knew we needed a SECOND drum kit? It’s gonna be a rockin’ weekend!
The loving attentiveness of our phenomenal children. I was coughing and a bit hoarse when I came in (change-of-seasons cold); I got some water and sat down to look over the mail. Within minutes, I had a blanket, slippers, a cup of ginger tea, and a biscotti (made earlier with Nonna), all without asking for them!

 

My son texted me and in so many words said he misses me and would love for me to come visit soon. I guess I’m going on a road trip next week.

 

Looks like it's going to be the Philadelphia Phillies vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks for the NLCS in baseball this year...
I'm torn but at least one of them will be going on to the World Series...which one will it be?

Got to feed the giraffes at the zoo today

 

We're out of tissue paper so I improvised with dog poop bags. (Unused)

 

I did a bit of research and apparently squirrels love apples too. So I bought some organic apples and cut them up, and put them with some walnuts and pecans and peanuts and cashews in a dish and put them out on my deck. The little squirrel was so excited lol. He will be nice and fat for the winter ☺️❤️❤️❤️
