On Tuesday, Sept. 3, Briarcliff Entertainment shared a clip from the fictionalized portrayal that shows Stan, 42, as a young version of the former president alongside Jeremy Strong as Trump's attorney and advisor Roy Cohn. The scene shows the two men traveling in the back of a car as they field a call from a reporter seeking to interview Trump. As Cohn hands Trump the phone to begin the interview, the lawyer is seen encouraging Trump to play up his ideas and quotes for the journalist over the phone. Briarcliff Entertainment/YouTube "A young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn, the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today," reads an official synopsis for the film. "Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé—someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win." The Apprentice, written by Gabriel Sherman and directed by Ali Abbasi, made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The movie immediately attracted significant attention for its searing portrayal of a younger Trump in the '70s as the former president continues his 2024 re-election campaign. One scene from the movie that generated significant controversy featured Stan's Trump character raping then-wife Ivana, who is played by Maria Bakalova. In her 1990 divorce deposition, Ivana described a similar assault, initially describing it as rape. She would later walk back the claim. In a 1993 statement, according to The Guardian, she said, “On one occasion during 1989, Mr Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage. As a woman I felt violated … I referred to this as a rape, but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense.” Sebastian Stan Transforms Into a Young Donald Trump in First Look at The Apprentice Movie Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan in The Apprentice. Despite the threat of legal action from Trump's campaign, the movie's director Abbasi, 43, appeared unconcerned at a festival press conference for the film in Cannes on May 21. "I mean, everybody talks about him suing a lot of people — they don't talk about his success rate, though, you know?" he said at the time. The Apprentice is in theaters Oct. 11. Close Leave a Comment
