Cicely Tyson

Cicely Louise Tyson was an American actress. Her most notable films include Sounder (1972), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), A Lesson Before Dying (1999), Because of Winn-Dixie (2005), The Help (2011) and Last Flag Flying (2017). She won two Emmys for her work in the 1974 TV film The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and a third Emmy for the 1994 miniseries, Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All. Tyson was also a renowned Broadway actress, winning the Tony Award for her performance in The Trip to Bountiful in 2014. She also received an Academy Honorary Award in 2018. Tyson died in 2021 at the age of 96.
