Whether it was that time in the ’80s you thought perming your hair and spraying your bangs into a rock-hard claw was the height of fashion, or those ’90s middle school days where you put so much roll-on glitter all over your face before the big dance you were rivaling the disco ball. Even stars who now look like the peak of perfection as they swan down the red carpet aren’t always immune to the siren song of beauty trends, as Kristen Bell proved on her appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, sharing a rather embarrassing childhood snap of herself with a mullet she got courtesy of her mother. On Wednesday night, the star of the new comedy The Good Place stopped by to chat with Corden about not always being quite as glamorous and put-together as she may seem. Sitting with Ellen Pompeo and Kurt Russell, Bell confirmed she used to play a lot of baseball as a child on an all-boys team, adding “I was pretty scrappy.” When asked if it was hard to be the only girl, she replied, “No, because my mother made sure that I would not take any flack from anybody because she gave me a real disastrous sort of haircut.” RELATED PHOTOS: Kristen Bell’s Sweet & Sporty Bump Style At this point, Corden ever so kindly pulls up a photo of the offending hairdo in question, allowing viewers to fully take in the splendor of Kristen’s tiny baby mullet. “That’s it,” the actress said, “because what she did to make sure I fit in with the boys is take the bangs past the forehead, past the ear, all the way down to the back, which I believe we now call a mullet. But I was one of the first. So I never had any problems because everyone always thought I was one of the little boys.” Cordon quipped, “she’s basically made you look like the kid from Jerry Maguire.” At least Kristen can take comfort in the knowledge that she wasn’t just following the mullet trend, she was pioneering it.
