A new documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono is especially meaningful Sean Ono Lennon.
In an interview with MOJO Magazine on Wednesday, March 19, the Plastic Ono Band artist opened up about the impact of watching the forthcoming film One to One: John & Yoko, which details his parents' artistic life together in the 1970s amid social and political atmosphere.
Sean, 49, was "completely floored" by the documentary, which is centered on his father, who was killed in December 1980 when John was 40 and he was 5.
“I think maybe not everyone realizes how special it is for me to hear my dad talking or to see him," he told the publication. "I grew up with a set number of images and audio clips that everyone’s familiar with. So to come across things that I’ve never seen or heard is really deep for me, because it’s almost like getting more time with my dad.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Sean opened up about the true "message of the film."
"They were very brave, John and Yoko, to go from singing songs to hanging out with the Chicago Seven, hanging out with the Black Panthers, and becoming real radical activists,” he said. “But you see that it goes too far. And you can feel that my dad is scared."
Added Sean: I think a lot of people today remember my dad’s activism as aligning with Jerry Rubin's. But he moves beyond that when he realizes that they’re violent too, or they want to be violent. And it’s a cold splash of water in the face.”

In an interview with PEOPLE in November 2024, the "Sugar Water" artist opened up about how his father's death inspired him to be a musician.
“I never played music because I was good at it,” said Sean. "I lost my father and I didn't know how to fill that void."
He continued: "Learning how to play his songs on guitar was a way to process the loss with an activity that made me feel connected to him. When you’ve lost a parent, things like that motivate you — because you're trying to find them. Making music always made me feel like I was getting to know him better. ”
One to One: John & Yoko will be released in the U.K. in IMAX on April 9 and April 11 in the U.S., with a wider release to follow.
