"I want my children to see me first every morning, so I wake up at 5 and make sure to shower and exercise before they get up," she tells PEOPLE of her routine before prepping breakfast for Arabella, 5, Joseph, 2 and Theodore, 4 months.

Dropping Arabella and Joseph at their summer activities near the family's home in N.Y.C. means Theodore is along for the ride. "I have to strap the baby on to me, especially with the other two running around," she says.

"My life is chaotic right now," she tells PEOPLE of work, motherhood and campaigning for her dad. "I'm exhausted 90 percent of the time." But she's not afraid to ask for help, whether from her family nanny, sister-in-law Vanessa (Donald Jr.'s wife and a mom of five) or mother-in-law, who lives two blocks away from her home in Fifth Avenue's Trump Tower.

FIND ROLE MODELS

"My mother is my inspiration," Ivanka tells PEOPLE of Ivana, Donald's first wife and a working mom. "She was the ultimate role model. It was always clear to us that we were her priority, but that doesn't mean we got her 24 hours a day." As for stepmom Melania, mother to 10-year-old Barron, "she's a great inspiration in terms of having the right priorities," Ivanka says. "She's done an amazing job sheltering [Barron] from the chaos that comes along with a presidential campaign. Melania is an unbelievable mother."

"I try to carve out special time with each of them," she explains. "Joseph loves playing with cars. Arabella could read with me for hours. I never loved baking until Arabella started cooking with me." Nursing the baby allows for quiet moments together, though, "Poor Theo, he's always the one where they're interrupting his time with me."

SPEAK UP FOR OTHER MOMS

In her speech at the Republican National Convention on July 21, Ivanka used her platform to talk about the barriers working mothers face, and how she's charged her father to change them. "Women represent 46 percent of the total U.S. labor force, and 40 percent of American households have female primary breadwinners," she said. "In 2014, women made 83 cents for every dollar made by a man. Single women without children earn 94 cents for each dollar earned by a man, whereas married mothers made only 77 cents. As researchers have noted, gender is no longer the factor creating the greatest wage discrepancy in this country, motherhood is. American families need relief. Policies that allow women with children to thrive should not be novelties, they should be the norm."
