Joanna Gaines, Kylie Jenner & More Celebs Reveal How They Found Out They Were Pregnant

“I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, ‘Wow, this isn’t me,’ ” the Fixer Upper star, who is expecting her fifth child with husband Chip, told PEOPLE. “Then all of a sudden I realized, ‘Hey, I remember this.’ When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped. Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, ‘We’re pregnant!’ He was so excited. We’re both just so excited.”

JENNIFER GARNER

Though Garner's at-home-pregnancy test was "so faint" that she couldn't quite tell and a doctor definitively told her "you're not pregnant" after giving her a "proper test" later that day, the actress — who was expecting her first child with ex Ben Affleck at the time — told host Ellen DeGeneres she woke up that morning and "just knew."

"I was like, 'Yeah, I am. I'm telling you I am,' " she remembered telling her doctor, adding that she changed physicians soon thereafter. "So Violet's 12, and I don't use that doctor anymore, but I have her so I won!"

KENYA MOORE

After undergoing in vitro fertilization, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star went to have her blood drawn to double-check her hormone levels and to see if she was expecting. (This is the most accurate way to check if a woman who is doing IVF is pregnant, Moore told PEOPLE.) But after a trip to the doctor, the reality star couldn't wait any longer, so she bought a pregnancy test on her way back home.

"As soon as I take the [blood] test and I’m driving home, I’m like, 'I should just go and get a test from the supermarket.' So I rode to the supermarket and literally took the test in the supermarket bathroom because I could not wait," Moore, who is expecting her first child with husband Marc Daly, recalled. "It was just overwhelming. I could not wait. And it was positive. And then I got the call from the doctor later that day confirming that I was indeed pregnant and had a positive test and what my HCG levels were. She said it was all really good news. I was like, 'Oh my God, I don’t know what to say!'"

In a video documenting her pregnancy journey, Jenner's best friend Jordyn Woods talked to the baby girl, daughter Stormi (whom the star shares with boyfriend Travis Scott), and recalled how she found out Jenner was pregnant.

“One day, I was in your mom’s bathroom with her and she took a little test,” Woods said. After Jenner looked at the pregnancy test, “She passed it to me after, like, ‘Surprise.’ She just looked at me weird and I’m like, ‘What?’ And I didn’t know that’s what she was doing so when she passed it to me I was like …” Woods explained, making a shocked face.

KHLOÉ KARDASHIAN

"Tristan kept saying, 'You're pregnant,' and I was like, 'Be quiet. I'm not pregnant.' I was nauseous, not feeling well," Kardashian, who shares daughter True with Tristan Thompson, recounted during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Then he had to leave the country, and I took a pregnancy test. I was, like, screaming. It's so weird and surreal."

In a wide-ranging interview with Fit Pregnancy and Baby, Reed – who is mom to daughter Bodhi with husband Ian Somehalder – opened up about how she first discovered she was expecting, explaining that she "took the pregnancy test before dawn."

“I didn’t have my glasses or contacts and I can’t see without them,” she said. “I was squinting, thinking, ‘Are there any more lines?’ I yelled to Ian, ‘Get up!’ He ran into the bathroom, read the test, and we were so excited.”

JESSICA SIMPSON

"We were going to [go] all-day drinking…" Simpson told ELLE of her and now-husband Eric Johnson's planned drive to Venice Beach, California back when she was unknowingly pregnant with daughter Maxwell. "Ride our bikes, hang out. But I started feeling this overwhelming guilt," she continued. "Why would I feel guilt at the idea of going out and having cocktails with my friends?" The singer took a home pregnancy test just to make sure, and found out she was expecting her first child.

WHITNEY PORT

A longtime sufferer of chronic headaches, Port consulted a doctor per her husband, Tim Rosenman's suggestion. The doctor said Port could get an MRI — but only after the reality star took a pregnancy test to make sure she wasn't expecting. "So that Saturday morning, the day after my doctor told me to take a test 'just in case,' I got a test and took it right away," she wrote in her blog for PEOPLE. "Timmy woke up while it was doing its thing, the science was science-ing, and he was like, 'Why are you pacing outside the bathroom?' I told him what was going on, and he freaked out."

She continued: "We both paced for a minute, and then he popped his head in there and came out looking shocked. A top-five crazy moment for sure. He said it was positive. We were pregnant. Holy s—. Sorry to curse. I took a few more tests that day and they came back positive, so we waited to celebrate until I went to the doctor the next week and got a blood test to confirm it!"

The couple are parents to a son named Sonny, whom they welcomed in July 2017.
