Liam Hemsworth Admits He Once Threw a Knife at Chris Hemsworth's Head

Ever wondered what life was like in the Hemsworth household when actor brothers Luke, Chris and Liam were growing up? Turns out, it was pretty “vicious.”

“Our childhood rivalry was a bit vicious – a bit like The Hunger Games, actually,” Liam jokes on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show.

In fact, the battles between the boys would get so serious they would find themselves reaching for weapons.

“We had a few incidents with weapons – I never had any problems with Luke because he was so much older and I didn’t mess with him.” he explains. “But with Chris, we were very likeminded, very stubborn and would often get into arguments and because I was so much younger and smaller I had to use weapons to fight.”

And naturally, someone almost got hurt.

“So one day when I was about 5 we had a fight in the kitchen about using the toaster, or something, and I picked up a kitchen knife and threw it at his head and the handle hit him in the forehead,” Liam, 26, admits.

The Hunger Games star jokingly adds: “I could have hit him with the other end if I’d wanted to – it was just a warning shot!”

Despite any battle wounds that may have occurred over the years, Liam insists there’s no sibling rivalry (or more crucially, knife throwing) when it comes to their acting careers. Instead, Liam says a perk of being the youngest brother is that he “could always go to them for advice”.

But just because they are close, Liam says fans shouldn’t hold out hope of seeing the brothers appear on screen together. The actor says he’s already tried that once before, and it didn’t go quite as planned.

“I did a TV show about 10 years ago with Luke and he came in for a day’s work,” he recalls. “All the cameras were on me and Luke was trying to distract me all the time – brotherly love!

Luckily, there were no such distractions on the set of the actor’s new sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day: Resurgence. The highly anticipated sequel takes place 20 years after the original group of extraterrestrials attempted to destroy the Earth.

It sees Liam donning fighter pilot fatigues alongside original cast members Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Bill Pullman, plus newcomer Jesse Usher, who plays the son of Will Smith‘s planet-saving hero, Captain Steven Hiller.

And while his character may ward off extraterrestrials with ease, the actor is the first to admit that he probably wouldn’t make the best alien fighter in real life.

“My work really affects my home life and I had terrible nightmares that Jeff and I were being attacked by aliens,” Hemsworth adds to Graham Norton. “I actually had dreams that we were running away from aliens. We weren t fighting them, just running away!
