The country star, 31, released a snippet of a new song titled “Superman” to Instagram on Monday, Feb. 24, and said the track is dedicated to his 4½-year-old. “Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be,” he captioned his post. “And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, it’s called ‘Superman.’” In the song, Wallen reflects on past mistakes, including his April arrest, and likens his struggles to those of the DC superhero while speaking to his son. “One day you’re gonna see my mugshot/From a night when I got a little too drunk,” he sings. “Hear a song about a girl I lost/From the times that I just wouldn’t grow up/And when you ain’t a kid no more/I hope you don’t think less of me/I try to hide my falling short/But you’re gonna see.” The singer goes on to compare “that bottle,” meaning his struggles with alcohol, to Superman’s kryptonite, which can bring “a man of steel down to his knees.” “Don’t always know my wrongs from right/Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy,” he sings. “No I don’t always save the day/But you know for you I’ll alway try/I do the best I can/But Superman [is] still just a man sometimes.” Wallen welcomed his son, whom he calls Indie, with ex Katie “KT” Smith in July 2020. The “You Proof” singer was arrested in April 2024 after throwing a chair from the roof of Chief’s Bar in Nashville. In December, he was sentenced to one week at a DUI education center as well as two years’ probation, one for each of his misdemeanor charges for reckless endangerment. The star was also ordered to pay a $350 fine and court fees. Wallen pleaded conditionally guilty due to judicial diversion, and if he successfully completes the terms of his probation, will have his charges eligible for dismissal and expungement. In January, Wallen announced the title of his upcoming fourth album, I’m the Problem, as well as an accompanying stadium tour that will hit 10 cities starting in June. In recent months, he’s released the songs “Smile,” “Lies Lies Lies,” “Love Somebody” and the title track. It remains unclear if “Superman” will appear on the new album. Wallen opened up about raising Indie alongside Smith in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, saying he was “thankful” to share his son “with someone I care about.” “We’re doing our best to figure it out, just trying to do the best we can with the situation,” he said. “The most important thing is he’s in our life now. He’s happy. He’s healthy. He’s incredible.” When Wallen announced the birth of his son on Instagram, he wrote a sweet message telling Indie he would “be the Dad you deserve as well as the co-parent your mother deserves.” “Since you were born, I know every decision I make will be with you in mind,” he wrote. “I promise I’ll always protect you and do my best to be an example of a good, godly man just like my daddy was for me.” Close Leave a Comment
