Margo Price is sharing a new piece of her world with fans — and it may be one of her most personal to date.
The "Hurtin' (On the Bottle)" singer, 41, recently unveiled a stunning new collaboration with Gibson which reinterprets their iconic J-45 model with some truly personal motifs. But to Price, her journey with the iconic instrument manufacturer began long before the brand tapped her for a signature guitar.
"I've been playing Gibson for decades," she tells PEOPLE in conversation at Nashville's Gibson Garage. "The first Gibson I ever owned was one that I found in my grandmother's closet, and I just begged her to have it. And it truly is a dream come true. I feel so lucky that I get to work with all these amazing women and they've brought my guitar that I play every single day ... to life."
Though she didn't originally begin on a J-45, Price's workhorse guitar — which has been by her side through everything from recording vulnerable moments on her 2023 album Strays to performances on the legendary Willie Nelson's Luck Ranch, has proven a definitive aspect of her sound over the years.

"It's a vintage 1965, J-45," she says of the instrument that inspired her Gibson signature model. "I loved the way that this neck fit in my hands. It was easy for me to play, but it really cut through a loud honky-tonk band."
Compared to the original it is based on, Margo's production-ready J-45 signature model boasts a slightly thinner mahogany body comprised of a red spruce top, traditional hand-scalloped advanced X-bracing, a rounded neck profile, double '50s-style pickguard and L.R. Baggs VTC electronics. The instrument is finished off in a vibrant Heritage Cherry Sunburst coloration.
Gracing the top of the J-45's double pickguard is artistry that is wholly Margo: a group of four red-tailed hawks etched with floral motifs surrounding. To Price, the bird symbolizes "resilience and strength," qualities she says she has "tried to embody."
"Red-tail hawks have been just a good omen for me. I see them often when I'm traveling back home or along the interstate," she explains.
Price additionally jokes that the guitar is an embodiment of herself, "It's like my voice and me in general ... good things come in small packages!"
