  • Stephanie March played fan-favorite Alexandra “Alex” Cabot on Law & Order: SVU as a series regular for four seasons and appeared in a recurring role for more episodes
  • March, 50, recently spoke to PEOPLE at the City Harvest Presents The 2025 Gala: Carnaval in N.Y.C. and revealed she would be open to returning to the series
  • The actress also shared that she sees a number of her former SVU castmates "with regularity"

Stephanie March proclaimed “never say never” about the possibility of her character returning to Law & Order: SVU.

March spoke to PEOPLE exclusively at the City Harvest Presents The 2025 Gala: Carnaval in New York City on Tuesday, April 22. During the conversation, the actress — who played Assistant District Attorney Alexandra “Alex” Cabot on the show as a series regular for four seasons and appeared in a recurring role for more episodes — said she hasn’t ruled out returning to the show if it made sense for her character.

“I think it would depend on the story, but they've got some good writers. Never say never, right?” says March, 50.

She also noted that the power may ultimately rest with the show’s fans, adding, “I guess if people still write, you could do a write-in campaign. That would be my only suggestion.”

The Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress went on to say that she still gets to see her old SVU pals, regardless of her character’s status on the show.

“The good news is I get to see Chris [Meloni] and Mariska [Hargitay] and BD [Wong] and all of those other wonderful people with regularity, so that's good,” she shares.

And as for what she wants to see next for her former castmates on the series? March said she honestly just hopes everyone keeps working.

“I just hope they keep their jobs like the rest of us,” she says. “That's the most you can hope for any actor right now. Just keep ... our jobs.”

March has previously opened up about how her time on the long-running series impacted a number of decisions in her real life off-screen. While catching up with PEOPLE ahead of her 50th birthday, the actress shared that her decision to work with the Panzi Foundation, which aids survivors of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was partly a result of an episode that covered similar themes.

“I remember it very clearly,” she says of the season 11 episode, titled “Witness.”

“And it was kind of stuck in my head at the time. And so I have to believe that to some degree, everything happens for a reason,” she says. “I'm not sure that when I got the job, I intended for this to happen, but once I had the job, I became pretty deliberate about it because the subject matter I found disturbing and compelling. It was just not something I could put away when I came home at night from work.”

“So, I became quite deliberate in my choices of how I wanted to participate and how I wanted to use my voice," she adds. "And I have been lucky enough to find a few places where those interests intersect, and I'm very passionate about it."
