Jack Black is opening up about his hard rock rendition of Britney Spears’ 1998 song “...Baby One More Time.”
Speaking at the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, Black, 54, — who plays the role of Po in the upcoming movie — revealed the origins of the cover, which he put together with his friend and Tenacious D bandmate, Kyle Gass, 63.
“Yeah. So, people don't know ... I don't even know if I'm allowed to say. I'm just going to give you the scoop, but the director, Mike, said, ‘Hey. We'd love to have a Tenacious D song …,’ Black told reporters. “That's Mike right there ... ‘at the end credits. Will you do a song?’ ”

“I was like, ‘Can we do Britney Spears?’ And he was like, ‘Yes,’ ” Black added. “And he said that he wanted '...Baby One More Time' because it's kind of in the vein of Kung fu.”
Black continued that he and Gass “cranked out a Tenacious D version of, and it's going to be at the end credits.”
“Then we're like, ‘Hey. Let's do a music video on the red carpet, black and white carpet, so that's what we're doing,’ ” he added.

In the video for the song, which was shared on TikTok earlier this month, Black and Gass dance in a living room as they move to the sounds of an electric guitar and the School of Rock star’s vocals.
Black then holds up a fist with the word "BABY" written across his fingers. "Tenacious B! 🐼," his TikTok and Instagram captions read, while on X (formerly known as Twitter), the band wrote, "STILL BELIEVE 🐼💥🐯."
Fans speculated that the song was connected to Kung Fu Panda 4 thanks to the panda emojis attached to the post.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is in theaters March 8.
