Inside Niecy Nash-Betts' Star-Studded 55th Birthday Hoedown: ‘My Parties Are a Situation’ (Exclusive)

Niecy Nash knows how to throw a party. 

The Emmy-winning actress welcomed her close friends and costars — including Colman Domingo, Naomi Watts and Ava DuVernay — to her hoedown-themed 55th birthday bash at the SLS Beverly Hills on Saturday, March 15.  

“I celebrate for a month,” Nash, whose actual birthday was Feb. 23, tells PEOPLE. "I've had several celebrations. And this is the end. Yeah, I'm finished after this. This is the finale."

The Grotesquerie star made a grand entrance on the dance floor with her hersband Jessica Betts, 42, as the couple danced for the crowd to Ginuwine’s 1996 hit “Pony.”

Nash stayed true to the theme, decked out in an all-red cowgirl ensemble. Her sequined attire featured a strapless corset top, fringed gloves, an elaborate belt, cheeky hot pants and knee-high cowgirl boots. 

Nash also channeled her inner-Dolly Parton with long blonde hair curled to perfection and topped with a sparkling red cowboy hat.

In addition to Domingo, Watts and DuVernay, Nash's guest list included Sarah Paulson, Taraji P. Henson, Teyana Taylor, Raven Goodwin, Danielle Brooks, Tia Mowry, Tracey Edmonds, Jill Scott, Da Brat and her wife Jesseca Dupart, Vivica A. Fox, Karrueche Tran, Wendy Raquel Robinson and many more. 

“Sherri Shepherd was coming, but she got the flu,” Niecy says.

“I got a beautiful text from Kim [Kardashian]," she notes, referring to her All’s Fair costars. "She couldn't make it, but I love the girls.” 

Nash’s children, son Dominic Nash, 33, and daughters — Donielle Mikel Nash, 30, and Dia La Ren Nash, 25 — were also present, and Dia and Niecy performed a cover of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” with the help of a live band.

Betts also performed a tribute to her wife.

The celebration continued with an open bar curated with cocktails like “Rodeo Girl,” a vodka, cranberry and pineapple mix, “Saddle Up,” which consisted of bourbon and lemonade, and “Daisy Dukes,” made up of tequila, lime and agave. 

And, of course, there was cake — a three-tiered, hat-topped cowgirl confection.

As guests nibbled and took turns on a mechanical bull, Nash shared how she celebrated her day on Feb. 23.

“On my actual birthday, I had brunch with Ava DuVernay,” she tells PEOPLE, referring to the screenwriter as her “bestie.” The ladies were also joined by filmmaker Victoria Mahoney, 9-1-1 actress Aisha Hinds and Betts.

“Everybody knows — and I'm not bragging when I say this, this is just factual — I throw the best parties," Niecy proclaims. "My parties are a situation, ask about me in these streets."
