Husband Gifts Wife a Vacuum for Her 50th Birthday — and Doesn't Even Bother to Wrap It

A woman who recently turned 50 says her husband woke her up with a "surprise" on her birthday — and it turned out to be a vacuum.

The woman shared her story in a post published on Reddit, with the title, "My husband got me a vacuum for my 50th."

Writing that the "title says it all," the woman details the day.

"Turned 50 yesterday. Husband (53M) woke me up, told me he had a surprise for me downstairs," she writes. "I go downstairs and see a vacuum, not even wrapped mind you. He said he thought I’d like a new one since the current one doesn’t have the ability to turn off the brush roller when using on hard floors. I never asked for a new one. It works fine."

And that, she adds, "was my birthday."

In her post, the woman writes that her husband didn't giver her lunch or dinner out, despite the fact that one month prior he had mentioned "doing something special and going on a trip."

"I asked about that and he said he figured I’d tell him when and where I wanted to go," she writes.
"He never asked where but did mention several times over the past month he had a surprise for me. Apparently it was a f*cking vacuum. We’ve been married 17 years."

The woman ends her post with a series of questions for fellow Reddit users, wondering if she was in the wrong "for hoping or expecting that maybe he could have planned and surprised me with something? Anything? Something more than an Amazon next day delivery vacuum?"

"When he turned 50 I took him to Hawaii," she writes, adding: "Maybe I’m just being hypersensitive. Turning 50 has been a hard number for me. Parents and grandparents all passed in that decade."

Commenters have weighed in, with many suggesting the woman give her husband a taste of his own medicine.

"Re-gift it back to him on the next occasion that calls for gifts," wrote one Reddit user.

Others suggested the woman turn the bad gift into an excuse to do something for herself. "Take yourself to Hawaii, and leave the vacuum in the living room," added another commenter.
