A Georgia high school football player and a recent high-school graduate died after a head-on car crash that also injured the woman’s younger brother.

Georgia State Patrol identified Brennon Beavers, 16, as one of the victims in the accident, which happened at approximately 4 p.m. local time in Walker County on Tuesday, April 15, according to CBS affiliate WDEF-TV.

Cassiddy Mitchell, 19, also died, NBC affiliate WRCB-TV and ABC affiliate WTVC-TV reported.

Both were driving their vehicles at the time of the collision, which also involved a third car.

Mitchell’s younger brother Cooper, 15, was injured in the crash and air-lifted to a nearby hospital where he remains in the ICU, according to WRCB.

"It just seems like a bad nightmare," Beavers’ father Monty Beavers wrote on Facebook. "I’m touched with every kind word, picture, or memory of how my son had such an effect on so many other lives in his short 16 years."

The father said he is “absolutely devastated not only for our family, but for the other family who is having to bury their daughter."

Beavers' former teammates said on social media that they are “heartbroken” over his death.

“Yesterday, we lost one of our own,” the LaFayette High School football team wrote on Facebook. “Brennon Beavers was more than a football player. Brennon was a leader, a brother, and the heart of our locker room. Our team, school, and community are grieving alongside his family, and we ask that you keep them in your prayers. We will honor his life, his number, and his impact every step of the way this season. Once a Rambler, always a Rambler.”

WTVC reported that the crash happened when Beavers' Toyota Tacoma, which was traveling south on Highway 27, “abruptly” turned into the northbound lane, striking Mitchell's Jeep Renegade head-on, citing officials with the Georgia State Patrol.
