Glen Powell Says Those Sydney Sweeney Romance Rumors 'Felt Disorienting and Unfair'

Glen Powell is addressing those Sydney Sweeney romance rumors.

In Men's Health's December cover story, Powell, 35, talked about his rising fame in the year-plus since Top Gun: Maverick broke box office records, and discussed his time filming the upcoming rom-com Anyone But You with Sweeney, 26, in Australia.

Powell's split from ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris, around the same time the movie filmed in the spring, fueled rumors that the costars were engaged in an offscreen romance.

"When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair," he said in the cover story. "But what I’m realizing is that’s just a part of this gig now."

Anyone But You follows Sweeney and Powell as lead characters Bea and Ben, whose initial attraction to each other fades quickly "until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia," according to an official synopsis. "So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple."

Sweeney remains engaged to her fiancé Jonathan Davino, whom she has been romantically connected to since 2018. PEOPLE confirmed the couple's engagement back in February 2022.

When the Euphoria star appeared on the cover of Variety's Power of Young Hollywood issue herself in August, she indicated that she and Powell are unbothered by the speculation.

“It’s a rom-com,” she said at the time. “That’s what people want! Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker."

“They want it,” Sweeney added of fans' reaction to the rumors that surrounded the making of the movie. “It’s fun to give it to ’em.”

Sweeney even wished Powell a happy 35th birthday in October with a photo that appeared to be taken on the film's set she shared to her Instagram Story. “Happy birthday to my fellow camp counselor, adventure extraordinaire, and goof ball," she wrote in a caption to that post.

Powell and Sweeney are directed by Will Gluck (Easy A) in Anyone But You, which also features performances from Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet and Rachel Griffiths.

Anyone But You is in theaters Dec. 22.
