Eric Dane will be back on set four days after revealing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.

PEOPLE can confirm the Grey’s Anatomy alum, 52, is set to begin filming season 3 of Euphoria on Monday, April 14. The actor stars as Cal Jacobs on the hit Max series.

During the season 2 finale of Euphoria, which aired February 2022, Cal was arrested after his son Nate (Jacob Elordi) turned him in to the police for his past crimes following a tense confrontation between the father and son, during which Cal finally faced his wrongdoings as a father.

After the finale aired, the actor teased in an interview with Variety that his character would return for season 3.

"There's gonna be redemption," he said. "I mean, that's the trajectory he's on. I can't imagine Cal's life from solitary confinement. It's tough to work Cal into the storyline when he's behind bars."

Dane’s return to the series comes after he revealed to PEOPLE that he has been diagnosed with ALS.

"I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” The Last Ship star — who is married to Rebecca Gayheart and father to the couple’s two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13 —  shared in a statement on April 10. “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week.”

“I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time,” he continued.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rare degenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles, according to the Mayo Clinic. It causes patients to slowly lose their ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe independently.

There's currently no cure for ALS, and people usually live three to five years after diagnosis, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. However, some patients can live decades.

In addition to Euphoria, Dane also just wrapped production on Amazon crime drama series Countdown
