A man in northern Ohio caused a three-car crash earlier this week after allegedly dropping his doughnut, according to authorities and local news reports.

"Crash occurred while driver [was] reaching down for food," a citation document confirmed.

The citation, sent to PEOPLE by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, states that Nicholas Fleming received a ticket for his involvement in the crash, which took place on Wednesday, April 2, at the intersection of Rock Creek and Dewey Roads.

The Thompson Fire Department and the Hambden Fire Department said in statements that the three vehicles involved took "heavy damage" and there was one person "entrapped" in the incident.

The driver who caused the wreck had allegedly dropped his doughnut, according to Fox affiliate WJW and CBS affiliate WOIO, both citing the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The man told troopers "he was unfamiliar with the area" and that he was reaching for his coffee at the time when he dropped the treat, WJW reported. The driver then hit two cars, OSHP's Chardon Post Trooper William Head confirmed.

The Thompson Fire Department said in a statement that one person had been taken to an area hospital "with non-life-threatening injuries."

"[Another] patient that was assessed by Leroy Twp. Fire Department refused transport, and was treated at the scene and released. Hambden Fire Department assisted with the extrication of the final patient, who was also transported by Thompson to UH-Geauga with non-life-threatening injuries," the post added.

Head, with the highway patrol, said the man driving the third vehicle sustained serious injuries in the crash, including four broken ribs, a broken wrist and a broken knee, according to WJW.
