In a TikTok video from Saturday, Feb. 15, the "NISSAN ALTIMA" rapper, 26, addressed her followers amid claims that Doechii, 26, had lip-synched at the 2025 Grammys during her live performance of "Catfish" and "Denial Is a River" on Sunday, Feb. 2. "I can't possibly get on here and say this calmly or nicely: y'all are stupid as hell," she began, understandably frustrated. "So slow! That is my DJ's voice picking up on the lines that I can't say because I'm doing A SOMERSAULT." Doechii's performance featured elaborate acrobatics, complex choreography and intense sets. At one point, she somersaults off of dancers' shoulders and walks up a human staircase comprised of the dancers. Doechii at the Grammys in Los Angeles on Feb. 2, 2025. "I was sick as a dog with bronchitis and the flu, performing my ass off in a straddle on top of human men." Doechii also pointed out that the beads she was wearing were being picked on the microphone at the beginning of her set. "[I] worked my ass off to build the stamina for that, for y'all to play in my face," she concluded. "I don't lip-sync. Don't ever f---ing play with me like that. Ever!" That evening, Doechii gave an emotional speech upon accepting the Gramophone for best rap album. "I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape. I bared my life. I went through so much," she said. "I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me I would be rewarded. And I have to thank God." Doechii concluded her speech on an inspiring note. "I know that there is some Black girl out there. So many Black women out there that are watching me right now. And I want to tell you, you can do it. Anything is possible. Anything is possible." "Don't allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can't be here, that you're too dark or that you're not smart enough, or that you're too dramatic or you're too loud," she continued. "You are exactly who you need to be to be right where you are and I am a testimony." She was also nominated for best new artist and best rap performance for "NISSAN ULTIMA" at the 67th Grammy Awards. "This performance is one of the most difficult performances I've ever done and I really felt a need to push myself harder than I ever had to before," Doechii told reporters in the press room at the 2025 Grammys. "It meant everything to me, too." "[I] proved myself tonight — to me —and so it was about rapping, theater and art, and I think I brought that to the stage," she added. Close Leave a Comment
