Parenthood offers many unique joys – and Beau Bridges is excited former costar Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are about to experience them.

“It’s the beginning of a great chapter for them,” Bridges told PEOPLE at the “A Night at Sardi’s” benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association Wednesday in Beverly Hills.

Bridges, 72, worked with Kunis, 30, in the 2008 film Max Payne and made it clear the pregnant star is motherhood material.

“Oh, she’s a sweet girl. I really enjoyed working with Mila,” he said. “I wish them all the best.”

A parental stamp of approval from Bridges certainly means something, considering The Millers star has raised five kids of his own: two with first wife Julie Bridges and three with Wendy Treece, his wife of 30 years.

His biggest piece of advice for the couple?

“Teach them respect. That’s what my dad did for me,” he said, referring to famous father Lloyd Bridges.

Over the weekend, a source confirmed that Kutcher, 36, and Kunis were expecting and another source said later a baby has been on the happy couple’s agenda for some time.

“They are both beyond ready to be parents,” a Kutcher insider told PEOPLE. “They’ve been talking about having children for nearly a year. They are so excited for that next step.”
