Brooks Nader is going back to the basics (and the 2000s) with her new Hudson Jeans collaboration.
The model, 28, launched a 16-piece collection with the beloved clothing company on March 20, which she tells PEOPLE consists of pieces that will elevate day-to-day looks. It all started when Nader went to tour the Centric Brands showroom over a year ago to see which brand she connected with most.
“I was like, ‘Wait a minute, Hudson Jeans? I used to be the biggest Hudson girl ever,’” she recalls. “I mean, every Christmas, it was all about Hudson. And so, I'm like, ‘What happened? I just haven't worn it recently and I wonder why, and maybe we could do something here.’”
She adds: “In middle school, it was like, if you weren't wearing the Hudson Jeans, what were you even doing with your life?”

When asked how she would describe the collection, Nader says it’s “model off-duty, '90s supermodel, old-school vibes.”
“I was really inspired by traveling to Paris and vintage shopping there and the structure and big shoulder pads and tweeds and patterns,” she shares.
One of her favorite pieces is the Sarah Jane leather jacket, which Nader reveals is a play on a Saint Laurent coat she saw during fashion week last year.
“The quality's amazing, the shoulder pads are great,” she teases. “It adds some flavor to a simple outfit.”

“I feel like a lot of pieces in the collection you can just mix and match,” Nader explains. “There's a lot of staples that everybody should have in their closet in there.”
With the return of trends from the '90s and early 2000s, Nader notes that she also wanted to lean into “that era.”
“I mean, we have the classic Hudson skinny jean there. I'm into it. I think it's so flattering,” she says, admitting, “I am a baggy jean girl typically, but I think why not look hot if you can? Why are we trying to be so cool? Can we just be sexy?”

At the end of the process, Nader says she put one more special touch on the collection by naming pieces after her three sisters.
“I haven't even shown them or told them that yet!” she reveals, joking: “They're probably going to say it's their line and they designed it, and take full credit, which I'm used to. But I'm just excited for them to see it and to see them wearing it too.”
Overall, Nader would call the collection “pretty versatile,” like the denim button-down bodysuit that can be worn with jeans or the matching micro-skirt, and the oversized blazer that works at the office or on a night out.
“The team was amazing and they had great ideas,” Nader gushed. “It was so fun being on the other side. Coming from a modeling background, being on the design side was really special to see how it all comes together and how much work is put into something like this.”
