She has won many awards throughout her career including the 2023 Dateline Award presented by the Washington, D.C., Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for Best Magazine Feature, the Maggie Award presented by the Western Publication Association for Best Public Service series, several Lone Star Awards presented by the Houston Press Club for Public Service, a Katie Award, presented by the Dallas Press Club, the Francis C. Moore ward for medical and health reporting, the Mental Health Association in Texas's media award, The Anson Jones, MD Award, honoring excellence in health communication presented by the Texas Medical Association, the First Amendment Award presented by the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, and The Emily Bissell Award for Excellence in Journalism, presented by the American Lung Association.  She was a finalist for the DART Award for Excellence in Reporting on Victims of Violence presented by the Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma (University of Washington). 

Wendy has also worked as a staff writer at the Houston Press, The Augusta Chronicle, The St Pete Times and The Virginian-Pilot.
