Family secrets are threatening to be spilled in a new family drama from the mind of Big Littles Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers author Liane Moriarty.

Apples Never Fall is a “very honest show about what it means to be a part of a very complicated family,” in the words of showrunner Melanie Marnich, who adapted the series from Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name.

The series is set to debut on Peacock in March, and the First Look photos introduce viewers to the world of the Delaney family — where everything is not quite what it seems.

The show follows Stan (Sam Neill) and Joy (Annette Bening), a pair of retired tennis coaches ready to settle into a quiet empty nester life — until Joy suddenly disappears. The unexpected turn of events follows the arrival of a wounded young woman who knocks on the door of the Delaney’s house, and forces Stan and Joy’s four adult children, Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner and Essie Randles, to take a deeper dive into their parent’s lives as they race to find their mom.

In the seven-episode show, life is seemingly blissful for Joy, Stan and their four children, who are pictured enjoying a meal together at home and posing for a sweet family photo.

The couple both look healthy and fit, with Stan in full tennis gear in one shot and Joy taking a casual bike ride in another, but as the synopsis teases, the family’s “darkest secrets” will be unveiled.

In another, the four kids look both concerned and confused as they talk to a woman, presumably about the disappearance of their mother.

As executive producer David Heyman teased of the series, the family’s “perfect veneer masks a myriad of secrets.”

A desire to adapt the No. 1 New York Times best-seller into a television series arose from an appreciation of the Delaney family’s “wit, wounds, yearning and complexity” in the “riveting and twisty mystery,” said Marnich.

“Through them, this story dives into the complexities of love, long-term marriage, and the struggle to define oneself within—and beyond—family,” the showrunner added of the series.

As casting news was announced earlier this year, Moriarty expressed her excitement for the talented slew of actors and actresses who joined the series on her Facebook

The author shared that she was “thrilled to announce that the amazing Annette Bening” would be joining the show in February, and shared the “wonderful” news of Neill’s involvement a few days later. Towards the end of the month, she excitedly announced that Brie and Lacy had joined as Amy and Troy, respectively.
