Luckily, his girlfriend Georgina Chapman was on hand to catch it as he tossed it from the stage! On Sunday, March 2, Brody, 51, was celebrated for his starring role as architect László Tóth in the drama movie The Brutalist, having beaten fellow nominees Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes and Sebastian Stan. Brody covered his face in shock when Cillian Murphy announced him as the category winner before embracing Chapman. He then started making his way to the stage as the crowd applauded before stopping and tossing his gum towards Chapman as she rushed forward to catch it. Once on stage, an emotional Brody said, "Thank you God. Thank you for this blessed life, if I may just humbly begin by giving thanks for the tremendous outpouring of love that I’ve felt from this world and every individual that has treated me with respect and appreciation.” Brody taking out his gum at the Oscars. It looks very glamorous and in certain moments it is.” The See How They Run star won the same award back in 2003 for his role in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist at the age of just 29 and he also referenced that in his lengthy speech. “The one thing that I’ve gained from having the privilege to come back here is to have some perspective. No matter where you are in your career, no matter what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away.” "And I think that makes this night most special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love. Winning an award like this signifies a destination and it’s something that my character references in the film,” he continued, referring to The Brutalist. Brody throwing his gum at the 2025 Oscars. Rob Latour/Shutterstock Brody spoke about a desire to continue starring in “meaningful” roles for another 20 years before also honoring the other actors who were nominated. He thanked a lengthy list of people within the industry as well as Chapman and her two children — son Dashiell, 13, and daughter India, 15 — who she shares with her former partner Harvey Weinstein. Brody and Chapman were first linked in 2019 and confirmed their relationship to PEOPLE in early 2020. I'm wrapping up. I will wrap up. Please. Turn the music off,” he said. “I've done this before. Thank you. It's not my first rodeo, but I will — I will be brief. I will not be egregious.
